Discussion prompts  For Students and Mentors

Wednesday, March 25, 2020

Use the Faith5 model for your discussion time.

 1SHARE your highs and lows

What was the best part of your day or the past week? What was the worst? Name it. Claim it.

Remember—no judging highs and lows! It is what it is. It’s telling the truth.

2.  READ (again) this week’s Bible verse

The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and of death.” Romans 8:2).

Read it aloud more than once (for example, from different translations).

3.  TALK about how the verse might relate to your highs and lows

Here are some things you might discuss.

·        Describe the usual order of things (the “law”) that you see at work around you these days.  Is it more like death or life?

·        Tell about any experience where you have seen “the Spirit of life” setting you and others free.

·        Is there someone in your life who seems to embody “the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus”? What kind of time do you spend with this person?

Remember—Don’t be afraid to tell the truth. If you have no idea what God is saying to you through this particular verse, go ahead and say so.

4.  PRAY for each another's highs and lows

No need to be fancy.  Just talk honestly with God about your highs and lows and give them over to the God who promises to be your God.

5.  BLESS one another

You can say a simple “God be with you” or “The Lord bless you and keep you” or similar words. If you are meeting by telephone, consider making the sign of the cross on your hand or forehead as you hear the blessing.
