Discussion prompts For Students and Mentors

Wednesday, March 18, 2020

Use the Faith5 model for your discussion time.

1.  SHARE your highs and lows

What was the best part of your day or the past week? What was the worst? Name it. Claim it.

Remember—no judging highs and lows! It is what it is. It’s telling the truth.

2.  READ (again) this week’s Bible verse

“Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 2:5).

Read it aloud more than once (for example, from different translations).

3.  TALK about how the verse might relate to your highs and lows

Here are some things you might discuss.

·        What seems to be on the mind of others who are close to you right now?  What’s on your mind?

·        If you can, recall a time when it seemed like Christ’s mind was at work in you.  What was going on at that time?

·        Where do you think Christ’s mind is taking you now?

Remember—Don’t be afraid to tell the truth. If you have no idea what God is saying to you through this particular verse, go ahead and say so.

4.  PRAY for each another's highs and lows

No need to be fancy.  Just talk honestly with God about your highs and lows and give them over to the God who promises to be your God.

5.  BLESS one another

You can say a simple “God be with you” or “The Lord bless you and keep you” or similar words. If you are meeting by telephone, consider making the sign of the cross on your hand or forehead as you hear the blessing.
